Serendipity House in the Pumpkin Patch

Photo Gallery

Our Second Quilt Along with Linda Grigsby is ready to begin! This one will involve 6" blocks which can be set into either a house or a pumpkin block.

One block will be revealed on Mondays and Thursdays on our website starting Thursday, July 9th.

A Message from Linda:
We are just so excited to be sewing along with you all again!  As many of you know, Kathy loves pumpkins and houses, so we decided to do both! ☺ To add a little twist to the houses and pumpkins, they are going to be used as setting blocks with a 6” block inside. You can choose to make all houses, all pumpkins, or combine them both in the same quilt! The skill level is advanced beginner and up.

Details:

The first week, both setting blocks will be revealed along with the first 6” block.  If you are going to use a common background for the setting blocks (Linda did), then 1 ½ yards of the background will be plenty. Linda chose to go scrappy with the pumpkin fabrics and the house fabrics, so she didn’t need much of those fabrics. She also went scrappy with the 6” blocks including the backgrounds, but if you want to use the same background as the setting blocks, take it up to 2 yards of background. There will probably be leftover, but we like that! ☺ For the house sashing and cornerstones, 1 ½ yards and for the pumpkin sashing and cornerstones, 1 ¼ yards of the brown and ¾ yards of the orange.

Thank you so much for joining us. As always, if you get stuck or have any questions, please e-mail Linda Grigsby at beehivequiltworks@gmail.com or call her at (484) 467-9871.   Linda will be happy to help you however she can!

We can’t wait to see what you come up with this time.

A Message from Kathy:
When Linda and I came up with the idea for houses or pumpkins, she designed the patterns to be a CHOICE! One or the other. I polled the Serendipity staff for a name for this sew along. The majority wanted “Serendipity House in the Pumpkin Patch”. So, I had started the first 4 house blocks from my Christmas stash. I didn’t love the idea of Christmas houses in the same quilt as pumpkins so I started some fall houses and some pumpkins. Here are the directions for using the 2 blocks together. This is how mine were made in the photo above.
  Read carefully!
To the HOUSE block - cut a 12 1/2” by 2 1/2” strip of your house fabric, and sew it onto the BOTTOM of your completed house block.
To the PUMPKIN block - cut 2 - 1 1/2” by 14 1/2” strips of your background fabric from that block, and sew one strip to each SIDE of your completed pumpkin block.

These blocks should now measure: 12 1/2” by 14 1/2” and can be used in the same row.
