Machine Applique - Spring Flowers

Level: Intermediate for piecing a quilt - Beginners for machine applique

In the class you will be making a block. We'll discuss how you can finish it at home.

Supply List:

• Pattern: Little Woolies - Spring Flowers (Included with the class fee)
• Fabric: Basic cutting supplies - mat, rotary cutter, ruler, etc...
  • For the basket and background 1/4 yard of two fabrics will work.  The Basket color can be used for the binding.
  • For the flowers and leaves. I used cotton. You can use wool. You will need:  (1) 6" Square of three colors, (1) 6" Square for the leaves.
  • 1/4 yard Heat-N-Bond light.
• Basic Sewing Supplies - Pins, scissors, etc.... all the usual tools/supplies you use to sew
• Pencil for tracing
• Sewing Machine, including the cords, pedal and the machine manual.Thread - to match or contrast with the fabrics. I prefer to match thread to the fabrics but you may prefer to contrast. Your choice.
  • a foot to use for decorative stitch, such as zig-zag or blanket stitch. I used the blanket stitch. Make sure you know how to attach that foot and how to set your machine for the preferred stitch.
• Scrap fabric. We're going to play with the decorative stitches on your machine before we work on the flowers.  Bring three (3) 6" square pieces of the light fabric and three (3) 6" squares of the dark fabric. Keep it simple so you can see the stitches.  They need to contrast. These will be practice pieces. I'll have some templates that you can trace.
