Scrap Petal Quilt Class (Advanced Beginner)
Skill detail - Students should feel confident in creating a simple background quilt top and be able to complete the background quilt top at home before the second class session.
While there are many ways to do Appliqué, (the pattern discusses several methods), in this class we will focus on three Appliqué methods while making a beautiful fun Scrap Petal Garden Quilt. The pattern, available at SQS, is from Cabin in the Woods Quilters and it looks great on a background of Tim Holtz fabric with Kaffe Fassett fabric petals. But, it will look absolutely fabulous using scraps from your stash! The design is entirely up to you! The possibilities are endless and there is no “wrong” in creating the quilt.
This is a two session class. The first session, we will discuss background fabrics and constructing the quilt top. We will go over three Appliqué methods to create the Appliqué scrap petals using the Nested Petal Templates (5” & 10”) also available at SQS.
One method we will use Heat n Bond Lite and the other method we will use a sew in interface so that the Appliqué pieces have no raw edges. We will also learn the use of Steam a Seam for the petals.
In the second session, we’ll go over placement and stitching options for sewing the appliqué scrap petals to the quilt top.
The class takes place over two weeks with ample time to complete “homework” between class sessions.
